MESSAGE TO RAYMOND ADAMS
Hayrake, Adams Crossroad, April 19, 2000
Raymond Adams was stricken with polio early in his life. Despite his handicap and the metal braces he was forced to wear, he remained and worked on the farm where he was born. Raymond modified his farming equipment so that even with his weakened legs he could carry out all the necessary chores. He worked out a manure-removal system in which he could shovel into a bucket on a track that went out the end of the barn, reducing the amount of walking he had to do.
For decades Raymond lived in the Adams Crossroad Schoolhouse, which appears in the upper left corner of the photograph. He died unexpectedly on April 13, 2000.
